STREET FIGHTER LEAGUE: PRO-US 2022 SEASON 5 WEEK SEVEN RECAP

STREET FIGHTER LEAGUE is back for week seven with another helping of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Team Battles. The first of this week’s clashes was NASR X BANDITS as the home team taking on RED ROOSTER. NASR X BANDITS came in as the only undefeated team and earned the season’s first clean sweep win against UYU in week six. RED ROOSTER has suffered two losses in a row but rising star newcomer AJAX FIDELITY has yet to be beaten a match this season.

Up next as the home team was CL GAMING going up against UYU. CL GAMING was in the middle of the standings at third place with a 3-1 record and two back to back wins in prior weeks. The opposing team for this week, UYU, had a brutal loss against NASR X BANDITS in week six and needed a rebound here.

NASR X BANDITS (HOME) vs RED ROOSTER (AWAY)

Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) Ajax Fidelity (Ed), 2) Smug (Balrog), 3) HotDog29 (M.Bison), SUB) Mono

RED ROOSTER made the bold move to start their lineup with Ajax Fidelity, who was undefeated so far this season. NASR X BANDITS decided to send in Caba using G in against the SFL phenomenon and it was a very close match. G is a very strong character with a lot of tools but so far nobody has found an answer to beating Ajax Fidelity’s Ed. It as a back and forth match with G looking for an opening to confirm into his corner-carrying combos while Ed effectively used his Flicker special move for offensive pressure. Caba tried neutral jumping a lot in an attempt to catch one of these Flickers but it rarely worked and Ajax made good use of anti-airs in most instances. Both games were very close but Ajax Fidelity closed out both and won the match 2-0 to continue his unbeaten streak.

Smug was next up in the Team Battle lineup for RED ROOSTER and fortunately for NASR X BANDITS they have what might be the ultimate counter-pick in MenaRD. MenaRD knows how to use so many characters at a high level that he is a tremendous asset in a home team situation. Here he went with Luke against Smug’s Balrog. MenaRD absolutely crushed Smug in the first game with his Luke keeping Balrog on the defensive. Smug wisely took a long break after this game to get advice from his team and went back in with Balrog. Smug did a lot better in the second game but MenaRD never really relinquished contol and won the match 2-0 with four straight winning rounds.

With both teams trading wins in the first two matches it all comes down to the anchor position. AngryBird has proven to be one of the best closers in the history of STREET FIGHTER LEAGUE and he adds to his record with a 3-0 win against HotDog29. AngryBird’s Ken was just too much for HotDog29’s M.Bison. His use of wakeup EX Dragon Punch was incredibly effective in this match as was his tick-throw game when his opponent was in the corner. HotDog29 had some very close rounds and perhaps even should have won the second game but AngryBird made the reads that took these rounds out of HotDot29’s grasp. This Team Battle was another impressive win for NASR X BANDITS as they solidify their lead in the standings.

CL GAMING (HOME) vs UYU (AWAY)

Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) Oil King (Seh), 2) Xian (Seth), 3) DCQ (Urien), SUB) NL

ChrisCCH has been fighting mostly out of the anchor position so far this season but for this Team Battle CL GAMING sent him in first to take on Oil King. Oil King’s Seth had an uphill battle here against ChrisCCH’s Luke. Seth has a lot of strengths but has low health going up against a character in Luke that can do tremendous damage in one combo. Both games of this match were competitive but ChrisCCH had the momentum from the beginning and never let up, winning the match 2-0.

The next match was Filipinoman with his Rose going up against Xian’s Seth. This one was pretty back and forth like the previous match but Filipinoman made more of the clutch plays to get the win. Xian had some really nice runs of damaged and looked to be poised to win but Filipinoman would make a big play to steal it away. Rose has the potential to do some incredible damage in a single combo especially against the low health Seth. Filipinoman took this one 2-0 and extended CL GAMING’s lead in the Team Battle to 20-0.

DCQ has been another surprise talent getting a chance to shine this season and continues to do so in this absolutely epic match against Justakid. This one had many momentum shifts with both players having to fight for every point of damage. Justakid is one of the best Juri players in the world right now and he put up a valiant effort against DCQ’s Urien. Juri’s walk speed alone makes her a tricky character to play against, substantially increasing the threat of her throws. It is hard to say if either player had any kind of sustained advanage in this match that went down to the very final round. DCQ came through, landing a mirror-combo to win the mach 3-2 to tie up the Team Battle.

After a lot of deliberation it was Filipinoman and DCQ going in for the one game tie-breaker. Both players came in hot after wins for their respective teams. This match wasn’t really close as DCQ’s Urien had the clear advantage for most of the two rounds, winning the last round with almost full health. It was another nail-biter but UYU got a much needed win that not only gets them 25 points but also puts some wind in their sails.
