STREET FIGHTER LEAGUE: PRO-US 2023 SEASON 6 WEEK SEVEN RECAP

It is week seven of Street Fighter League season six and the competition continues to heat up.  After six weeks NASR remains undefeated and finally gained some distance between itself and second place in the standings last week.  The gap is only 30 points, however, and the next four teams are hot on their heels.  NASR leads with 170 points with second place VERSUS VORTEX and third place BANDITS tied at 140.  Right behind them is UYU in fourth and RED ROOSTER in fifth, both tied at 130.  Only 10 points separates second place from fifth.  This is truly the most competitive season of Street Fighter League to date.  ENDEMIC is the only team on the outside looking in with just 35 points.  Just a few weeks remain in the regular season and just four will advance to the playoffs.

NASR (HOME) vs ENDEMIC (AWAY)

Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) ChrisCCH (Ken), 2) Reynald (JP), 3) Samurai (Luke), 4) FlashMetroid

It was first place versus last place in the first Team Battle this week as unbeaten NASR took on sixth place ENDEMIC.  It is still possible for ENDEMIC to come back and get into the playoffs, but they need a lot of things to break their way, including getting a lot of much-needed points.  Once again things didn’t pan out for them as NASR won 30-10.

ENDEMIC hasn’t managed to close matches out to earn the points, but they are always competitive.  The first match between Punk’s Cammy and ChrisCCH’s Ken was ENDEMIC’s low point in this Team Battle.  ChrisCCH started the first round strong and had a few moments, but Punk was in control for most of that match and won 2-0 in four straight rounds.

Up next in ENDEMIC’s order was Reynald using JP and Big Bird stepped up to face him with Marisa.  It was a very exciting match, but Reynald clutched out a win in the last round with a neutral jump to come out on top 2-1.  Big Bird has had an uncharacteristic run of four straight losses after this week.

With the score tied at 10-10 it was time for the anchor match and AngryBird’s Ken would take on Samurai’s Luke.  Samurai got a strong win in the first game off good neutral and several perfect parries.  Samurai put up a terrific effort in this match, but AngryBird would go on to win the next three games to finish 3-1.

RED ROOSTER (HOME) vs BANDITS (AWAY)

Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) Caba (Guile), 2) Xiao Hai (Ken), 3) MenaRD (Luke), 4) Chris Tatarian

BANDITS took a tough 10-30 loss to NASR last week which dropped them from second place to third.  The level of competition this season is incredibly high, and they have had to fight hard for their points.  RED ROOSTER took a tough loss last week as well, losing by just 5 points in a tiebreaker against VERSUS VORTEX.  Both teams have taken some losses this season by razor thin margins.  In their first meeting BANDITS shut out RED ROOSTER 40-0.  RED ROOSTER earned more points in the rematch but was beaten 10-30.

Leading off the Team Battle was Caba’s Guile taking on Mono’s Dee Jay.  Caba came out swinging, getting a very strong win in two rounds with the last round being a perfect.  In game two Caba and Mono threw streams of projectiles at one another, but Caba would win the second game as well to give BANDITS the lead.

Xiao Hai’s Ken was up next in BANDITS’ order and PR Balrog’s Juri stepped in.   This was a close match, but PR Balrog would win two games straight to tie the score on the Team Battle 10-10.

BananaKen has been on fire this season with his JP having beaten all the other JP players in the competition as well as handing rare losses to the likes of NL and AngryBird.  Up to this week his only loss was to MenaRD in week two and here in the anchor match they got the runback.  This was an epic rollercoaster match from beginning to end full of unbelievable clutch plays by both players.  MenaRD started the match using Luke but after losing a close first game switched to Blanka for the remainder.  BananaKen would win the first two games only to have MenaRD claw his way back, winning three straight games to hand BananaKen his second defeat 3-2.

UYU (HOME) vs VERSUS VORTEX (AWAY)

Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) Xian (Dee Jay), 2) DCQ (JP), 3) NL (Luke), 4) Oil King

Coming into this week UYU was sitting in the middle of the standings at fourth place with 130 points.  They got a nice 30-10 win over ENDEMIC last week.  They would run into a roadblock in this Team Battle against VERSUS VORTEX, who has been surging in recent weeks.  VERSUS VORTEX has only lost one Team Battle since week one, which was a narrow loss to NASR decided by a tiebreaker.  In their first meeting VERSUS VORTEX came out on top 25-20 but that was not the case here.  VERSUS VORTEX got a huge win this week 40-0 which closes the gap between them and first place NASR to just 20 points in the standings.

Xian’s Dee Jay was in the first spot for VERSUS VORTEX and Dual Kevin’s Luke was chosen to face him.  Dual Kevin would win the first game only to have Xian answer right back in game two.  Dual Kevin started out strong in the final game, but Xian’s Dee Jay used projectiles to make it difficult for Luke and would win the match for VERSUS VORTEX 2-1.

The second match between VXBao and DCQ was a JP mirror match.  DCQ demolished VXBao in the first game, seemingly able to read VXBao’s mind.  VXBao made some adjustments and did better in the second game but not enough to tip the scales as DCQ cruised to a 2-0 triumph.

It was up to NuckleDu’s Guile to attempt to reverse UYU’s fortunes and his Guile would face NL’s Luke.  NL would win the first two games only to have NuckleDu come back to win the next two to tie it up.  This match was very tough for both players as each gained and lost momentum. In later games NuckleDu would switch to throwing more projectiles against NL’s Luke, making it harder for him to start close offense.  This one would go to the very last round and it was here that NL had a last surge of momentum that would give him the 3-2 victory.
