STREET FIGHTER LEAGUE: PRO-US 2021 SEASON 4 WEEK TEN RECAP

Week ten of STREET FIGHTER LEAGUE is here and this deep into the season its still anyone’s game. Team NASR has an increasingly tight grip on first place but the other five teams are all within one game of each other. The top four teams will move on to the playoffs in week sixteen and get a chance to go to the Finals at Capcom Cup VIII in February next year. So there are five weeks remaining for all teams to get as many wins as possible. If the standings remain close, making the cut or going home could come down to tiebreakers so every game and round is incredibly important. The first of this week’s Team Battles is between second place VODAFONE GIANTS and third place PANDA GLOBAL. Following that was a battle between first and last place between NASR and UYU.

PANDA GLOBAL vs VODAFONE GIANTS

Banned Characters: Dhalsim and Poison

With the standings so close every Team Battle is critical and this one between Infexious’ second place VODAFONE GIANTS and Punk’s third place PANDA GLOBAL was a real thriller. Both teams were tied at a 3-3 record coming into this week with tiebreakers making the difference. Both have had up and down seasons so far and both came into this week after losing their previous Team Battle. VODAFONE GIANTS came out on top of PANDA GLOBAL in their first meeting in week three 3-2 and they get a repeat here with the same result.

Both teams left it all on the field here with the only really one-sided matchup being VegaPatch’s F.A.N.G. against Nephew’s Kolin. Nephew seemed to be completely at a loss trying to get any kind of offensive momentum going against VegaPatch’s F.A.N.G.. Every other matchup in this Team Battle was a 2-1 result. After Mister Crimson and VegaPatch eliminated Justin Wong and Nephew in the first two rounds the weight of PANDA GLOBAL was once again on Punk’s shoulders.

Punk is used to this position and has had many OCVs in his STREET FIGHTER LEAGUE career but he fell just short. Both of his matchups with Karin against Infexious’ Zeku and Mister Crimson’s G was a real nail-biter that came down to the last round. Just like in their first Team Battle it was Mister Crimson that eliminated Punk. Mister Crimson’s accomplishment is even more impressive in the runback as his primary character Dhalsim was banned and he got the win with G.

After this week VODAFONE GIANTS is in second place without tiebreakers and is once again on the upswing. The key for them will be to keep that upward momentum going. For PANDA GLOBAL it was another tough loss this season but their team is always dangerous and more than capable of going on a winning streak.

NASR vs UYU

Banned Characters: Rashid and E. Honda

Oil King’s UYU got a big win against VODAFONE GIANTS last week to put a lot of wind in their sails. They came into this Team Battle still in last place but with the standings so close they are still very much in the game. Big Bird’s NASR is solidly in first place and hasn’t lost a Team Battle since they dropped a close one against PANDA GLOBAL all the way back in week one.

NASR continues to extend their first place lead with its 3-1 win over UYU this week. They are now at 7-1 after this week and are virtually assured to remain in that top spot. All three players are playing incredibly well with no player carrying the others. AngryBird’s Zeku continues to put in work with two impressive performances against Kami’s Akira in round one and against NL’s Cammy to close it out in the last round.

Team UYU gets another loss this week. Kami’s Akira was incredibly strong and was within a hit or two of beating AngryBird in the first round. NL carried the team last week against VODAFONE GIANTS and was dangerous here, getting a convincing win against Problem X’s Alex and was very close to eliminating AngryBird. UYU continues to get within sight of winning some of these Team Battles but come up just short.

TEAM STANDINGS

NASR is solidly in first place at 7-1 and at this point they will be tough if not impossible to dislodge before the Playoffs. VODAFONE GIANTS gets a more solid hold on second place at 4-3 and PANDA GLOBAL remains in third place at 3-4. NORDAVIND and BANDITS are unchanged with no Team Battle this week and UYU stays in sixth place dropping to 2-5.
