There were two 40-0 shutouts in last week’s Team Battles which resulted in a big change in the standings for CLOUD9. The team dropped from first place all the way down to fourth after a stunning loss to FIGHTING SPIRIT. FIGHTING SPIRIT would take the top spot in the standings for the first time while FLYQUEST and BANDITS each moved up one spot to second and third respectively. SHOPIFY REBELLION and RED ROOSTER came into this week still in the bottom two spots. This week’s Team Battles began with SHOPIFY REBELLION versus FLYQUEST followed by CLOUD9 taking on BANDITS and closing with RED ROOSTER against FIGHTING SPIRIT.

SHOPIFY REBELLION (HOME) vs FLYQUEST (AWAY)
Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) Psycho (Kimberly), 2) ChrisCCH (Ed), 3) Punk (Cammy), SUB) Shine
FLYQUEST versus SHOPIFY REBELLION was the first Team Battle of the week and it was a close 25-20 win for FLYQUEST. The first two rounds of the Team Battle were all SHOPIFY REBELLION but Punk managed to fight his way to victory for his team from the anchor position.
SHOPIFY REBELLION knows it needs every point so they sent in NuckleDu using Cammy to lead things off against Psycho’s Kimberly. NuckleDu got a solid win on the first game. Psycho managed to make the second one more competitive but NuckleDu won 2-0.
Next up in FLYQUEST’s player order was ChrisCCH using Ed and Dual Kevin went in with his Rashid. Dual Kevin continues to be red hot as he completely and quickly dismantled ChrisCCH, winning four rounds straight for another 2-0. Dual Kevin’s aggressive playstyle seemed to have ChrisCCH on the back foot from the beginning.
Sayff and his Ken took on Punk’s Akuma in the anchor match. In the first two games Sayff played with precision and confidence, making great decisions and winning both games comfortably. Up until this point the momentum was all on Sayff and SHOPIFY REBELLION’s side but that changed when Punk switched characters to Cammy. Punk roared back and won the next three games straight to win 3-2 to tie the score.
In the tiebreaker match NuckleDu and Punk faced off in a Cammy mirror-match. This was an incredibly close game with both players winning opening rounds. Punk would win the last round exploiting and punishing an errant Super by NuckleDu to win the game and the Team Battle.

CLOUD9 (HOME) vs BANDITS (AWAY)
Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) Zhen (Dee Jay), 2) Caba (Guile), 3) MenaRD (Blanka), SUB) Luiman20
CLOUD9 took a shutout loss last week and they had a strong rebound here against BANDITS, winning 40-0. This turnaround result shows that CLOUD9 is not just talented, but they are also resilient. The first two matches of the Team Battle were close and could have gone either way with just one or two interactions being different.
Lexx and his Guile defeated Zhen in the first match. Zhen started using Dee Jay but switched to M.Bison after losing the first game. Zhen won game two and the match would go to the final round of the final game but Lexx would win 2-1.
Despite the 2-0 score, the match between JB’s Rashid and Caba’s Guile was incredibly close. This was a back-and-forth match with both players trading offensive flurries. Both players made some clutch plays but JB would chip out Caba while he was in burnout to earn 10 points for CLOUD9.
Booce and his Ken went in against MenaRD’s Blanka and this is one of his most impressive wins yet. MenaRD played patiently, respecting Booce’s ability. In all three games Booce managed to find an opening to go on offense and seemed to have an answer for everything MenaRD tried. After game two MenaRD went to character select and seemed to contemplate a character change but stuck with Blanka. Booce would win 3-0.

RED ROOSTER (HOME) vs FIGHTING SPIRIT (AWAY)
Away Team Player and Character Order: 1) Oil King (Rashid), 2) Sayff (Ken), 3) Dual Kevin (Rashid), SUB) Xian
It’s been a tough season for RED ROOSTER, with the team having earned a total of 40 points coming into this week. The last two Team Battles have been especially brutal, being back-to-back shutouts. The team broke the shutout streak this week against FIGHTING SPIRIT but only earned 10 points. For FIGHTING SPIRIT it was another solid showing with the 30-10 victory keeping them in first place.
The first match between Brutus’s Zangief and Oil King’s Rashid started off with a quick and dominant win for Brutus the first game. In the second game Oil King adjusted and played harder to get, but Brutus made an incredible read in the last round to snatch Rashid right out of the air into piledriver to win 2-0.
Ajax Fidelity’s Ed against NL’s Akuma was intense and close. NL used lots of projectiles to help nullify Ed’s greater reach. Ajax Fidelity was effective at challenging NL’s approaches through the air, but the latter adjusted the timing of dive-kicks and air fireballs to counter. NL won 2-1 to even the score.
In the anchor position for FIGHTING SPIRIT was DCQ’s M.Bison and Uriel Velorio challenged with his Ken. Uriel Velorio started strong with a perfect in the opening round and went on to win the first game. After that first game DCQ switched to JP and virtually shut down Uriel Velorio’s offense, keeping him guessing with his various ranged attacks, teleports and effective use of JP’s normals. DCQ would win the next three games straight to earn a 3-1 victory.
